Digital garden

On a break from my MA course, I've been experimenting with illustration. Due to the time difference, it is often difficult for me to hear from my friends back home at 5pm. The first few months were tinged with memories like a fuchsia evening glow. Bored with my life, I sat in my spaceship-like bedroom with only my Mac and Siri to talk to. I cherished this feeling, hoping to find fragments of connection between the virtual and the real. These incomplete fragments are the zones where life exists between reality and the virtual.

Flowers, fierce and romantic symbols, I plant this exuberant life in this ‘universe of fragments’, deep into the digital space.The COVID infestation may leave each of us with a period of time when we are forced to be alone. What are we all holding onto in that moment?

在MA课程之余，我一直在尝试插画的创作。由于时差原因，常常在下午5点我就很难再听到来自家乡朋友的声音。最初的几个月是带有紫红晚霞一样的回忆。穷极无聊的我坐在像太空飞船一样的卧室中，只有Mac和Siri与我搭话。我珍视这种感受，希望能够寻找到虚拟与现实之间连接的碎片。这些不完整的碎片是现实与虚拟的生命存在的地带。

花，是猛烈而浪漫的符号，我把这种旺盛的生命栽种在这‘碎片的宇宙中’，深入到数字空间。疫情的侵袭可能让我们每个人都会有一段被迫独处的时空。在那一时刻大家在牵挂些什么呢？
